Volunteer & Pet Requirements...
Please note: new volunteer orientations take place in the Spring and Fall each year.
Volunteer
-18 years of age or older. People and pet friendly!
-Complete orientation forms; complete/pass Pa State Police Criminal Record Check and Pa Child Abuse History Clearance; -Attend 2 1/2 hour orientation (without pet), complete volunteer/pet evaluation and two observations.
-Commit to at least 12 hours a year (approximately 1 hour visit per month) to remain active. Schedule is up to the volunteer and is VERY flexible!
-$40 first year volunteer membership fee which includes a Caring Hearts t-shirt, pet scarf, certificate, car magnet and IDs with lanyard.
-$30 annual volunteer membership fee after first year.
Pet
-1 year of age or older. Volunteer must have owned/cared for the pet at least 12 months.
-Well socialized pet with basic obedience and good manners, no aggression towards food, toys, adults, children or other pets. Must pass an initial volunteer/pet evaluation (including obedience test) and two additional observed visits with the volunteer.
-Be in good health with an up-to-date veterinary certificate including annual negative fecal test and rabies vaccination as required by law in Pennsylvania and dog license if applicable.
The following types of domesticated pets are welcome into our program if they meet the pet requirements - alpacas, cats, dogs (all breeds), pygmy goats and horses.
